Softball dropped its opening game of the Long Beach Invitational to Virginia Tech 6-1 Thursday night at Mayfair Park.

(2013): As a sophomore was picked as the Big West Player of the Year ... Also a Second-Team All-Region nod and a First-Team All-Big West selection ... Led the 49ers to a 37-20 overall record while hitting .374 with 74 hits, 18 RBI and an on-base percentage of .400 as Long Beach State's leadoff batter ... Stole 13 bases in 2013, and added eight doubles, two triples and a home run ... Kimbrough's .374 batting average was the second-highest in school history ... Her 74 hits in the season tied for third in one season at Long Beach State ... Scored 39 runs, third in the school single-season records ... Picked up a hit in eight of Long Beach State's first 10 games ... Kicked off a huge hot streak with a 4-for-5 day vs. UNLV (2/24) ... (2012): Named All-Big West Honorable Mention...Held down the shortstop position in 54 games and made 94 put-outs and 108 assists in the season... Batted .273 with nine RBIs and 24 runs scored...Stole six bases throughout the season... Had one of her best offensive games against Indiana (Feb. 17) where she went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI during the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic... Hit two doubles against Cal State Northridge (Apr. 22) where she went 3-for-5 overall and scored one run.
High School: Played three seasons at Pacifica High School in Oxnard, Calif., before transferring to Frontier High School in Bakersfield ... Led Frontier HS to a 35-3 record, while claiming first-team all-state and first-team all-county honors ... Finished 87th in the state of California in hitting with a .579 average ... Finished with 10 doubles, three triples and a home run, while driving in 26 runs with 39 runs scored and 30 stolen bases ... Had a .579 on-base percentage, and a .746 slugging percentage ... As a junior, earned first-team all-state and first-team all-County recognition at Pacifica HS ... Hit .511 with 22 RBI and 10 stolen bases ... Scored 35 runs, while finishing with a .537 on-base percentage ...
