Virginia Tech vs. Long Beach State

Softball dropped its opening game of the Long Beach Invitational to Virginia Tech 6-1 Thursday night at Mayfair Park.

Long Beach State (2013): Started 56 games for Long Beach State, splitting time between DP and Catcher ... A second-team All-Big West selection ... Hit 10 home runs on the season, and drove in 41 RBI, second on the 49ers ... The 10 homeruns were tied for 4th in school history in one season .... Finished season with 15 home runs in her career, 5th in LBSU history ... Sandoval's 41 RBI was tied for second in the Big West ... Also added nine doubles, slugging .543 on the year ... Had a career day against Seattle, going 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs while also walking twice ... Drove in four RBI and scored four times against the Redhawks (2/15) ... That game was part of a five-game hitting streak ... Went 3-for-4 with a run scored against New Mexico (3/2) ... Was 3-for-3 with a double against Miami (3/15) ... Started Big West conference play with a six-game hitting streak ... Went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI at Hawai'i (4/27) ... Drove in three runs in the season finale against Fresno State, hitting a home run (5/11).

(2012): Selected to All-Big West Second Team... Led the team in slugging percentage with .531 and batting average with.337... Hit two homeruns, 11 doubles, and had 14 RBIs... Finished with 12 multi-hit games... One of her best games came against Maine where she went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI in the game (2/29) ... She made an impressive 110 putouts while only committing four errors... Hit homeruns against Charlotte (3/3) and Syracuse (5/9).

(2011): Played in 38 games, starting 29 at part of a platoon at catcher ... Hit .227 with three home runs and eight RBI ... Had three multi-hit games, including a season best three hits (3-for-4) with a home run and three RBI at Cal Poly on April 22 ... Had two hits vs. Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (2-for-3) and Ohio (2-for-2 with two RBI) ... Also hit home runs against SIEU and Baylor ... Scored a season-best two runs at UC Riverside on May 13 ... Threw out four of 14 base runners attempting to steal.

High School: Team captain as a junior and senior at Riverside Poly High School ... Four-year letter winner ... Named second-team All-Big 8 Conference as a junior and second-team All-Ivy League as sophomore and freshman ... Batted .360 as a senior before getting injured ... Finished junior season with 32 hits, 20 RBI and a .314 batting average in 102 at bats ... Collected 31 hits and eight RBI with a .348 batting average in 89 at bats as a sophomore ... Finished freshman year with 25 hits, 17 RBI and a .278 batting average in 90 at bats ... High school coach was Vanessa Czarnecki ...
