Virginia Tech vs. Long Beach State

Softball dropped its opening game of the Long Beach Invitational to Virginia Tech 6-1 Thursday night at Mayfair Park.

2011 (at Tennessee): Played in 11 games for the Vols, with eight at bats ... Had two hits and a batting percentage of .250.

High School: A native of Whittier, Calif., Holmes helped lead her La Serna High School squad to the 2008 California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section championship while posting an outstanding 27-4 overall record...The 6-0 catcher/infielder posted a .420 batting average during the `08 campaign with three home runs, eight stolen bases and 19 RBIs and was responsible for the eventual game-winning, two-run homer during the opening inning of the CIF title tilt...Holmes picked up selections as a senior in 2010 to the Cal-Hi Sports All-California Softball Third Team and the All-CIF Southern Section Division 2 First Team as a catcher...She was tabbed as a 2008 first team All-CIF selection, was a three-time first team All-Del Rio League choice (2007, 2008 and 2010) and was included on the 2008 and 2010 Whittier Daily News All-Area squads...She played Gold ball for the powerful "Golden State" squads, the So Cal Crunch and So Cal Explosion.
