It might be a little over dramatic to say the season comes down to this weekend, but a series between teams in first and second place in the Big West makes for a great matchup as the 49ers host CSUN for a trio on Saturday and Sunday. The series starts with a doubleheader 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the final game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Sophomore Lauren Lombardi went 2-for-3 with five walks over the course of two games Wednesday, including hitting a grand slam in the opening game. The Beach took the opener 5-1 and then rallied to win a wild 7-6 contest with a walk-off in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Long Beach State faces a critical week, one of the busiest of the year with five games on the slate. The Beach kicks off the week with national exposure, hosting Cal State Fullerton for a double-header on ESPNU on Wednesday at 1 p.m. as the rivalry series continues.
Sophomore Lauren Lombardi hit the second grand slam of the season for Long Beach State, helping the 49ers take the first game in the rivalry series with Cal State Fullerton 6-1. The home run was the seventh of the season for Lombardi.
