LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's soccer team heads to Fresno State for its first road game of the 2010 season on Monday, Aug. 23. The 49ers and Bulldogs are set to square off at 7 p.m. (PT).
LAST TIME OUT
The Beach dropped its first season opener since 2005 as it fell to No. 14 BYU, 2-0, Friday evening at George Allen Field. The 49ers played the nationally ranked Cougars tightly as the two teams went into the break in a scoreless tie. BYU pulled away in the second half, however, as Kassidy Shumway headed in the game-winning goal just 1:47 into the period. Carlee Payne tacked on one more for the visitors in the 53rd minute.
BYU won the battle in shots (13-to-7), while LBSU held a 4-to-3 edge in corner kicks. It was also a very physical game as BYU racked up 17 fouls and the 49ers had 15.
Senior Karina Camacho led The Beach with three shots, two of which were on target. Junior Emily Kingsborough also tallied six saves in net.
THE SERIES
Long Beach State leads in its all-time series with Fresno State, 5-1-0. The 49ers have won the last three contests by way of a shutout. In the most recent meeting on Aug. 23, 2009, LBSU defeated the Bulldogs, 2-0, at George Allen Field. Overall, The Beach has outscored Fresno State, 11-3.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Fresno State dropped its season opener at Pepperdine, 2-0. Kaitlyn Revel, a preseason All-Western Athletic Conference pick, had six saves in the loss. Revel is currently the school record holder with 24 shutouts and ranks second with 331 saves. Defender Kendall Van Dine was also named to the preseason All-WAC team. The Bulldogs finished the 2009 campaign sixth in the WAC standings with a 4-4-0 mark and an overall record of 6-12-0.
FOR OPENERS
Long Beach State saw its streak of five consecutive season-opening wins come to an end against 14th-ranked BYU on Friday. The last time the 49ers fell in the first game of the year was in 2005, when they dropped a 3-0 decision to No. 3 UCLA. Overall, The Beach is 8-7-2 in season openers, while it owns a 6-5-0 mark when kicking off the year at home.
TOUGH SCHEDULE
Long Beach State begins the season with a bang as it is set to face three nationally ranked teams in its first four games. The 49ers opened the 2010 campaign against No. 14 BYU and will take on No. 15 Virginia Tech and No. 18 Washington State at the Aggieland Invitational Tournament in College Station, Texas.

The 49ers will stay on the road next weekend as they head to College Station, Texas, for the Aggieland Invitational Tournament where they are slated to take on No. 21 Washington State (Aug. 27) and No. 15 Virginia Tech (Aug. 29).
