LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State senior forward Ashley Gonzales was named to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. The announcement was made Tuesday morning by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) and the Missouri Athletic Club.
Gonzales is one of 61 NCAA Division I players named to the Watch List. A total of 30 players are included on the Women’s Watch List.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year. This year’s winners will be announced on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Gonzales played an integral part in the success of the 2016 Long Beach State squad which won the Big West Tournament Title for the third time in program history and made its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance.
The Ontario, Calif., native led the Beach with 11 goals, 25 points, 57 shots and 29 shots on goal. Gonzales tallied a team-best three game winning goals in her junior campaign and was named 2016 Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Year in addition to a First Team All-Big West selection. She was also named to the 2016 NSCAA All-West Region First Team.
Gonzales enters her senior season with 28 career goals to rank her fifth all-time at Long Beach State. She needs just three game-winnings goals to set the school record with 13 in her career. Additionally, she ranks in the program’s top 10 in points (62 – 6th) and in shots 154 – 5th).
The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men’s and women’s MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches and from those individual candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.
