Women's Soccer Begins Preseason Training for 2013 Season

LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's soccer team began fall training camp with two practices at George Allen Field on Wednesday.
LBSU started with a two-hour morning session that consisted primarily of conditioning drills. The 49ers returned to the field in the afternoon when they held another two-hour practice.
Long Beach State, which is coming off its third-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, returns 13 letterwinners and five starters from its 2012 team that finished with a 12-8-0 overall record.
Leading the way in 2013 will be senior midfielder Eileen Maes and junior midfielder Taylor Nelson. Maes, a second-team All-Big West selection, was tops on the squad with nine goals last year, while Nelson garnered All-Big West honorable mention recognition after finishing with three assists and 28 shot attempts.
The 49ers also welcome back sophomore forward Elizabeth Lyons (2 goals, 3 assists) and sophomore midfielder Hannah Sanders (1 goal, 1 assist), who were both named to the conference's all-freshman team in 2012.
In addition, LBSU returns senior midfielders Kassidy Hause (1 goal, 1 assist), Jessika Oseguera (3 goals, 1 assist) and Chyann Saban, junior forward Kristyn Benavidez (2 goals) and sophomore midfielder Renee Mendiola (3 goals, 1 assist).
Sophomore defenders Melanie Fox and Marie MacKenzie also saw action as true freshmen, combining for five starts.
The 49ers will host FIU in an exhibition match on Friday, Aug. 16 (6 p.m.), before officially opening the season against Northern Arizona on Friday, Aug. 23. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at George Allen Field.
