LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State women's soccer head coach Mauricio Ingrassia has announced the Beach's 2017 fall schedule. The 49ers will play nine matches at George Allen Field and nine road contests, while facing five teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament a year ago.
The Beach open the season with three scrimmages, the last against reigning National Champion USC on August 12. Following the scrimmages, Long Beach State's competitive home schedule features four non-conference matches and five Big West Conference contests.
"It's the type of home schedule that our fans have become accustomed to here in Long Beach," Ingrassia said. "We have big names coming to George Allen Field once again, and for the second consecutive season, we host the defending National Champions.
"Overall it's the type of schedule that will allow us to develop our potential and help us reach our goals from an RPI standpoint. No easy games and nowhere to hide. August can't come soon enough."
In addition to hosting USC in a scrimmage, Long Beach State will also welcome the Beach FC Women's squad (Aug. 6) before the Black and Gold Scrimmage (Aug. 9).
The regular season kicks off with Big West Conference foe CSUN in a non-conference match up on August 18 for Long Beach State's season opener at George Allen Field at 7 p.m. Following the match against the Matadors, the Beach host UCLA (Aug. 20) and Northwestern (Aug. 24), which both made NCAA Tournament appearances last season.
The 49ers' first road game of the year comes on August 27 at San Diego State. The Beach return home to George Allen Field to open the month of September against Dartmouth (Sept. 1) before traveling north to take on Cal on September 4 before coming back to Long Beach to host the University of San Diego (Sept. 8).
Long Beach State closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule on the road as the Beach travels to LMU (Sept. 10), before making the cross country trek to the East Coast to face UConn (Sept. 14) and St. John's (Sept. 17).
The month of October features all Big West Conference contests as the Beach host Hawaii on Oct. 1 before playing at UC Irvine on Oct. 5. Long Beach State welcomes Cal State Fullerton to George Allen Field on Oct. 8, prior to traveling to Cal Poly (Oct. 13) and UC Santa Barbara (Oct. 15).
UC Riverside comes to Long Beach on Oct. 22, before LBSU heads to CSUN on Oct. 26 for its final regular season road match. The Beach then close out the regular season on Sunday, Oct. 29 against UC Davis.
Long Beach State is coming off of a 2016 campaign in which it made its second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and sixth in program history. The three-time Big West Tournament champions return senior forward Ashley Gonzales, the reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Year, as well as sophomore defender Chloe Froment, who was named Big West Freshman of the Year in her rookie season.
