LBSU Women's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Feb. 17, 2014
LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State women's soccer team has announced its schedule for the upcoming spring season.
"The offseason is a great time of the year to work on individual as well as team concepts," 49er head coach Mauricio Ingrassia said. "Players that did not feature in the fall will get an opportunity to play and gain valuable experience. We return 10 of 11 starters so this should be a very productive offseason."
The 49ers will begin the spring season with a road trip down south, taking part in the University of San Diego Tournament that has LBSU facing the host Toreros and San Diego State on Feb. 22. LBSU will then welcome USD and Cal State Dominguez Hills to George Allen Field on March 1.
On March 8, Long Beach State will host the Big West Spring Challenge, which also features Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine and UC Riverside. All four teams will face each other in a round-robin format.
LBSU then heads north to Malibu for a road match against Pepperdine (March 15). This will mark the first time the 49ers and Waves have played each other since the 2011 NCAA Tournament when Long Beach State came away with a thrilling 1-0 overtime first-round win.
The 49ers will close out the spring season with three consecutive home games against the Alumni team (March 15), San Francisco and Azusa Pacific (March 29).
Long Beach State finished the 2013 campaign with an overall record of 8-7-3 with a relatively young team. The program is looking to make its fourth NCAA appearance in five seasons.
