Long Beach State Women's Soccer Inks Seven for 2018 Season
The Beach welcome six incoming freshmen and one transfer in signing class
LONG BEACH -- Long Beach State women's soccer head coach Mauricio Ingrassia announced the signing of six incoming freshmen and one transfer as Riana Castaneda, Sierra Castles, Charlotte Guillory, Elysia Laramie, Angela Morales, Lena Silano, and Abby Trengove each signed a National Letter of Intent to play at the Beach for the 2018-19 school year.
"This 2018 class is different than any other class we've experienced at Long Beach State," Ingrassia stated. "Every field player in the class has played year round in the U.S. Soccer Girls Development Academy, not taking a break for high school soccer and training three to four times a week. They will be sharp and this could be a great advantage for them.
"There is some individual talent that will be able to challenge for time right away. They are athletic and technical, but most importantly, they come with great character references from some outstanding programs and coaches. I look forward to integrating this talented group to our returning core and our team culture."
Riana Castaneda | Goalkeeper | Jr. | Fresno, Calif. | Clovis North HS (Fresno City College)
Castaneda comes to Long Beach State after having spent the last two years as the goalkeeper at Fresno City College where she helped the Rams win the 2017 State Championship as well as a mythical National Championship as her team was ranked number one in the final United Soccer Coaches Junior College National Poll. In her final year at Fresno City College, Castaneda earned First Team All-America status as well as MVP of the State Championship Tournament. Castaneda started all 25 games in which she played this season while allowing just six goals for a 0.33 goals against average and collecting 51 saves. She finished at Fresno City College with a 25-0-2 overall record in net, and was 10-0-1 in conference action. With Castaneda in goal, the Rams recorded a total of 27 shutouts over her two-year career, while allowing an astounding nine goals against in her two-year career. Castaneda previously played goalkeeper at Clovis North High School.
Ingrassia on Castaneda:
"Riana is a welcome addition to our goalkeeper crew. She comes with collegiate experience and a winning mentality. She will improve the depth of the position and could challenge our goalkeepers right away."
Sierra Castles | Forward/Midfield | Fr. | Lake Forest, Calif. | El Toro HS
Castles ran three years of track and played basketball for two seasons at El Toro. She did not participate in high school soccer. She was part of the 400-meter relay team that set the South Coast League record time. She boasts impressive times, 12:54 seconds for the 100-meters and 26.28 seconds for the 200-meters, and was named MVP of sprinters during her high school career. She gained valuable experience on the pitch playing for Beach WPSL of the Women's Premier Soccer League during the 2016 and 2017 seasons. She began playing club soccer in Maui on a boys team before moving to California to play on Arsenal ECNL, West Coast ECNL, and Beach FC USSDA. Castles collected a number of prep honors, as she was a U.S. Soccer Training Invite, an iD2 Selection, as well as an ODP State Team selection. In addition to her prowess on the field, Castles also owns a 3.9 grade point average as a student at El Toro High School.
Ingrassia on Castles:
"I first found Sierra as a 12 year old playing on a boys team in Maui, of all places. She moved to the mainland to challenge herself as a player and we are thrilled to have her with us in the black and gold. She can play a variety of positions, has explosive speed, and a good feel for the game. Sierra will be a big contributor for our program."
Charlotte Guillory | Midfield | Fr. | Albany, Calif. | Saint Mary's HS
A top 100 recruit for the Beach, Guillory will enter Long Beach State with a No. 87 ranking on the IMG Top 150 Class of 2018 after lettering for two years at Saint Mary's High School. She is a member of Lamorinda United, a member of the United States Girls Development Academy Program. In her final year playing for Lamorinda, Guillory has scored nine goals in 17 matches played thus far. As a sophomore at Saint Mary's High School, she recorded 15 goals in just 11 games.
Ingrassia on Guillory:
"Charlotte is a savvy midfielder that can play in any role. She can keep rhythm, score, and assist. She fits into our playing style perfectly, and can be in our midfield rotation as early as this first season. She is a very intelligent player with great vision and outstanding speed of play. I look forward to having Charlotte in our midfield."
Elysia Laramie | Defender/Forward | Fr. | Simi Valley, Calif. | Simi Valley HS
Laramie comes to the Beach after a solid career at Simi Valley High School. In her junior season, Laramie scored 15 goals and 13 assists in 24 matches played. In addition to playing at Simi Valley High School, Laramie is a member of the Eagles SC USSDA. Laramie is currently having a great year, with 11 goals in 15 games as a forward for the Eagles in the Girls Development Academy.
Ingrassia on Laramie:
"Elysia was recruited as a defender, but she is having a breakout senior club season as a forward, scoring at a torrid pace. The national staff is demanding that she play forward as she has impressed with her physical power, overall speed, and finishing touch. She is a tremendous athlete, and I can see her in either position as an impact player for us."
Angela Morales | Midfielder | Fr. | Montclair, Calif. | Montclair HS
Morales is a midfielder out of Montclair High School. Morales attended camp with the U.S. U16 WNT and plays her club soccer with Legends FC of the US Girls Development Academy. During the current season, playing with Legends FC, Morales has 13 goals in 18 games for one of the conference leading squads.
Ingrassia on Morales:
"A crafty and provocative attacking midfielder from Legends, left-footed, with a great shot and ability to play a final pass. She had a stint with the U-16 U.S. National Team. She is a link player and has the potential for big things at the Beach within our style of play."
Lena Silano | Forward | Fr. | Agoura Hills, Calif. | Agoura HS
Silano will come to Long Beach State after playing soccer at Agoura High School and Real SoCal USSDA. Last season with Real SoCal, Silano played in 15 games with 12 starts, and tallied four goals. At Agoura Hills, she was voted Second Team all league as a freshman, and First Team as a sophomore and junior. She was voted Offensive MVP for all three years of her high school career.
Ingrassia on Silano:
"A relentless attacking player that can play inside or out wide. She has a great personality and character, and will add a different dimension to our attack. Lena is a welcome addition to the Beach both on and off the field; a great leader."
Abigail Trengove | Goalkeeper | Fr. | Folsom, Calif. | Vista Del Lago HS
A 5-foot-10 goalkeeper from Northern California, Trengove comes to Long Beach State after playing at Vista Del Lago High School and for San Juan SC ECNL.
