NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The No. 22 Long Beach State women's soccer team saw its seven-game unbeaten streak come to an end Friday night as it fell to Cal State Northridge, 1-0, at Matador Soccer Field.

CSUN scored in the 89th minute to hand LBSU its first Big West Conference loss. It was also just the second time the 49ers have been shutout this season.

Long Beach State (10-4-1, 3-1-0 BWC) finished with seven shots, three of which were on frame. Senior Shawna Gordon and freshman Taylor Nelson both had two attempts, while senior Nicole Hubbard and juniors Jenny Soza and Nadia Link fired off one shot each.

Senior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Gustaves had one save in the loss.

It looked like the two teams were going to be locked in a scoreless tie at the end of regulation, but Cal State Northridge was able to find the back of the net at the 88:23 mark. Katie Russ headed a throw-in to Heidi Farran, who then sent the ball to the lower left corner.

The Matadors (5-7-2, 3-1-1 BWC) totaled 14 attempts with two shots on goal. LBSU held a 4-to-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Long Beach State will look to rebound on Sunday (Oct. 16) when it makes the short trip to UC Irvine for a 6 p.m. Big West showdown.
