STOCKTON, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's soccer team completed a perfect weekend with a 2-0 win over Pacific Sunday afternoon at Knoles Field.
LBSU, which earned its second-straight shutout victory, improved to 11-5-0 overall and 4-2-0 in Big West action. The 49ers secured their first road sweep in Northern California since 2007 as they defeated UC Davis, 1-0, on Friday (Oct. 12). It was also the first time in program history that Long Beach State blanked both teams during the regular season series.
Junior Eileen Maes put away the eventual game-winner in the 31st minute, marking her second goal of the weekend and team-leading eighth of the season. Senior Kelsey Wilson was credited with her sixth assist on the play.
Senior Nadia Link also connected for her 31st career goal, which puts her just two away from tying the 26-year old school record. In addition, Link totaled a game-high eight shots to move her into third among the 49er all-time leaders with 202 career attempts.
Redshirt freshman Marrina Meyers earned her fifth shutout of the year.
LBSU controlled the game, outshooting the Tigers, 16-7, and owning a 6-to-1 edge in corner kicks. Long Beach State capitalized on a Pacific foul at the 30:30 mark as Wilson delivered an indirect free kick into the box where Maes headed it inside the right post. The 49ers finished the first half with a 6-to-3 advantage in shots.
Long Beach State held a 1-0 lead until the final minute of play when Link put back her own rebound after her initial breakaway attempt was saved by Pacific goalie Tashia Long.
Pacific (3-10-1, 0-4-1 BWC) finished with just one shot on goal and was paced by Maricela Padilla who had five total attempts.
