FULLERTON, Calif. - Junior Jessika Oseguera had a goal and an assist to lift the 20th-ranked Long Beach State women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Army at the Under Armour Invitational Sunday afternoon at Cal State Fullerton's Titan Stadium.

Oseguera set up junior Eileen Maes for what proved to be the game-winner in the 69th minute. It was Maes' fourth goal of the season and third of the tournament as she also scored twice against Texas Tech on Friday. Oseguera then tacked on an insurance goal with eight and a half minutes to play.

Freshman Elizabeth Lyons added an assist, while sophomore Marrina Meyers picked up her second shutout of the year.

LBSU (6-3-0) outshot the Black Knights, 13-9, and was led by Maes and Lyons, who each had three attempts.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half, but Long Beach State owned a 7-to-4 advantage in shots.

After the two squads went back-and-forth early in the second period, it was the 49ers who were able to break the scoreless tie at the 68:39 mark. Freshman Hannah Sanders started the play by driving down the middle of the field and chipping the ball over to Oseguera on the left side of the box. Oseguera then cut the ball back inside and crossed it to Maes, who took two dribbles to her left before tapping a shot past diving Army goalkeeper Linda Rosas, and inside the right post.

In the 82nd minute, Oseguera registered her second goal of the season to put Long Beach State on top, 2-0. Lyons' initial one-on-one shot was blocked by Rosas, but Oseguera was able to secure the rebound and drive it to the upper netting.

Katie Holder led Army (4-6-0) with two shot attempts.

Long Beach State returns home for its final non-conference game against San Diego on Friday, Sept. 21. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at George Allen Field.
