SAN DIEGO – The Long Beach State women’s soccer team took an early lead and never looked back as the Beach shutout San Diego, 2-0, on Sunday night at SDSU Sports Deck.

Long Beach State (2-1-1) came out shooting as the Beach out-shot the Aztecs (1-3-0) 5-2 in the first half. With the Beach offense on a tear, LBSU managed to net a pair of goals in the first 45 minutes which would be all Long Beach State would need as the Beach rolled to a 2-0 victory.

Senior Tori Bolden led the offensive attack as she scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Kaitlin Fregulia at 33:16. Seven minutes later, freshman Nadiyah Siqueiros tallied the first collegiate goal of her career at 40:55 to put the Beach up 2-0. Teammate Kayla Cannon passed the ball from the left side to Siqueiros who hit the back of the net for her first time in an LBSU uniform.

Long Beach State’s defense stepped up in the second half and kept the Aztecs off the board. San Diego State took seven shots to the Beach’s three in the final 45 minutes of action, but LBSU goalkeeper Imani McDonald recorded five saves in net to secure the shutout victory.

Long Beach State also held the lead on corner kicks as the Beach registered six to the Aztec’s two.

The Beach were led by Bolden and Kailee Prescott who each tallied two shots in the game, while Siqueiros, Fregulia, Katie Pingel and Rocio Rodriguez each had a shot.

Although the Aztecs recorded nine shots in the game, with five shots on target, the Beach were able to keep San Diego State scoreless with their stout defense.

McDonald earned the win (2-1-1) in the net with five saves in 90 minutes of action, while San Diego State’s Gabby English suffered the loss (1-3-0) with three saves and two goals allowed in 90 minutes.

Long Beach State will return to George Allen Field as it hosts Dartmouth on Friday, Sept. 1 at 7 p.m.
