49ers, Aztecs play to a 1-1 tie in friendly scrimmage

LONG BEACH - Junior Chyann Saban scored in the second half for Long Beach State in Friday night's scrimmage against San Diego State as both teams played to a 1-1 tie at George Allen Field.

There was no overtime period played as both teams congratulated each other at the end of regulation.

Saban recorded the 49ers' lone goal in the 47th minute off a corner kick from senior Jordan Nelson. Saban connected with the ball with a header that was drilled past the left post from four yards out.

SDSU's Soledad Gomez tied the game in the 86th minute from six yards out near the left corner off a deflection among a mixed players from both teams.

LBSU tallied five saves for the game as sophomore Marrina Meyers played in the first half recording two saves, while fellow classmate Kaci McCain closed out the last 45 minutes with three saves.

The 49ers finished with seven shots for the game and two corner kicks, while the Aztecs turned in 11 shots and three corner kicks.

LBSU opens the regular season at home next Friday evening, hosting Arizona at 7 p.m.
