Laura VanWart begins her first year as an assistant coach for the 49er women's soccer program.
VanWart comes to The Beach from Saint Mary's College in Moraga, Calif., where she served one year as an assistant. With the Gaels, VanWart worked primarily with the forwards and midfielders. Under her guidance, the school had its best offensive season since 2002, scoring in 19 out of 20 games.
Prior to her stint at St. Mary's, VanWart was the head coach at Contra Costa College for three years. In her first season, VanWart was named the 2006 Bay Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
VanWart was also the head coach at Las Lomas High School (2008-09) and El Cerrito High School (2006-08). She has also coached for numerous clubs in the Bay Area, including Bay Oaks, San Ramon and the Mavericks Soccer Clubs. Her first team as a club coach garnered international success as the 2007 Norway Cup champions, defeating the Beijing Football Club in the finals.
VanWart currently holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Advanced National Diploma and a California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) National "D" coaching license.
VanWart graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in history and a minor in education.
