Jeff Joyner enters his 12th year at Long Beach State, and his sixth as associate head coach.
In Joyner's ten years with the program, the Beach has claimed four Big West regular season championships and three Big West Tournament titles. He has also been a part of all six of LBSU's NCAA Tournament teams, including two straight appearances in 2015 and 2016.
Joyner was promoted to associate head coach prior to the 2012 season and Long Beach State went on to earn its third-straight NCAA Tournament berth. LBSU, which went 12-8-0 overall, received an at-large selection after finishing fifth in the Big West.
In 2011, Joyner helped the Beach reach new heights as the 49ers won their second consecutive conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, the furthest that any Big West team has gone in the postseason. Long Beach State, which went 18-6-1 overall, shattered the school record for wins (18), goals (49), assists (52) and points (150). Nadia Link was named a third-team All-American and the Big West Offensive Player of the Year, while Shawna Gordon earned Big West Midfielder of the Year honors.
Joyner was also a volunteer assistant at Long Beach State in 2005, 2006 and 2008. In 2008, the Beach claimed its third consecutive Big West regular season title and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
In his first two years at LBSU (2005-06), the squad twice set school records for victories, winning 12 games in 2005, before topping that with 14 wins and the program's first-ever Big West championship in 2006. In both seasons, Long Beach State was nationally ranked for the first time in school history.
Joyner had previously spent five years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Cal State Dominguez Hills. His first year with the men's program resulted in an NCAA Division II National Championship, before he coached the women's squad from 2001-04.
Joyner played for CSUDH in 1999, after transferring from Harbor Junior College where he was a two-time All-South Coast selection. Joyner prepped at South Torrance High School, where he was a two-time all-league pick and an All-CIF honoree as a senior. He earned his bachelor's degree in economics in 2001.
Joyner resides in Long Beach with his wife, Tiffany, daughter, Kennedy, and son, Declan.
