The Long Beach State women's golf team hits the road for the second consecutive week, traveling to the North Star State to take part in the Minnesota Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis with first and second action on Monday, Sept. 16 and final round play on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Live scoring of all three rounds of the Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic will be provided on Golfstat.com.
LBSU will among a 12-team field as senior Rochelle Chan, redshirt junior Ashley Greer, sophomores Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare and freshman Sachi Hamadawill compete against (126) Nebraska, (41) Texas State, (77) San Diego State, (86) Cal State Fullerton, (89) Idaho, (67) Minnesota, (119) Illinois, (72) Augusta State, (68) UC Irvine, (139) Jacksonville and (71) Kent State.
FAMILIAR FACES IN MINNEAPOLIS
Almost half the field of the Minnesota Invitational are teams from the west as the LBSU will be joined by fellow Big West Conference members Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine, San Diego State (Mountain West) and Idaho (WAC).

LBSU is currently ranked at No. 65 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings and No. 73 in Golfstat.
LBSU is coming off from a seventh-place finish in the season-opening Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The 49ers turned in a 54-hole score of 42-over-par 906, finishing 10-shots ahead of four-time Big West Conference Champion UC Davis (11th) and 23 strokes ahead of NCAA Tournament participant San Jose State. Sophomore Shawnee Martinez led the way for the 49ers, finishing in ninth at 2-over 218 with fellow classmate Kassidy Teare coming in right behind by one stroke at 3-over.
MARTINEZ, TEARE HAVE STRONG PERFORMANCES IN COLORADO
Sophomores Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare recorded solid play in the season-opening Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic as both players finished in the top-10 in Fort Collins, Colo. Martinez placed ninth to post her second consecutive top-10 performance dating back to last year's Big West Championship where she tied for seventh. Teare tied for 10th at the Ptarmigan Country Club, collecting her third career top-10 finish.
PARK HAS A BUSY SUMMER
Junior Chaewon Parkhad a pretty summer playing in two big tournaments, the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. and the 113th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in Charleston, S.C. Park advanced to the round of 32 in the match play portion of the WAPL this past June, becoming the first 49er to do so since 2008. In August, the San Pedro native was among 156 players that advanced to the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston. Park missed the cut by four shots, finishing with a 12-over 154 after posting rounds of 76 and 78 to tie for 96th.
MARTINEZ ADVANCES TO WAPL CHAMPIONSHIP
Sophomore Shawnee Martinez joined fellow teammate Chaewon Parkat the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. this past June. Martinez was the medalist finisher at the WAPL sectional qualifying at the Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Course in Stockton, Calif., shooting a 74 to advance to the championship in Norman. The native from Modesto recorded a 17-over 161 during the two-day stroke play at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to tie for 122nd place.
CAL POLY HOSTS 2014 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP
For the third straight year the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the central coast to the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo hosted by Cal Poly. The three-day, 54-hole touranment will take place April 13-15, as eight teams will compete for the conference championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
