Women's Golf Hires Kortnie Maxoutopoulis As Assistant Coach
Former golfer comes from Georgia Southern University
LONG BEACH -
Long Beach State head women's golf coach Joey Cerulle has announced the hiring of Kortnie Maxoutopoulis as assistant coach.
Maxoutopoulis replaces former 49er Kassidy Teare who is playing professionally on the LPGA Symetra Tour.
"We are pleased to have Kotrnie on board as our assistant coach," Cerulle said. "Kortnie is filled with passion and desire to empower and lead our women's team to a Big West Championship. She has a tremendous playing background and has learned so much in her coaching career. Her desire to compete will be infectious to our culture, and we look forward to her sharing her time and talents with our student-athletes"
Maxoutopoulis comes to LBSU after spending the last two seasons at Georgia Southern University. This past season, the Eagles recorded four top-five finishes, including a first-place performance at the WKU-USM Spring Break Shootout.
The Pleasanton, Calif. native played three seasons at Texas Christian University after completing her freshman season at Rutgers. She posted seven top-10 finishes at Rutgers and was named All-Big East and Big East All-Academic in 2011-12. She played in 24 tournaments at TCU and had three top-10 finishes and four top-25 performances in her senior year. She placed third at the 2015 Big 12 Championship and tied for fourth at the 2015 LSU Tiger Classic.
Maxoutopoulis' father Jeff was a member of the LBSU baseball team (1980-81) under former head coach John Gonzalves.
"I am thrilled to be coming onboard to assist with the women’s golf program at Long Beach State," said Maxoutopoulis. "I was drawn by Coach Cerulle’s coaching philosophy and his investment in the success of each player, both on and off the course. The location, facilities and opportunities present at this University are also nearly unmatched. I am humbled and honored with the opportunity I’ve been granted to be a part of this team, invest in our players and impart some of my experience and wisdom in order to empower our team’s growth, development and success."
