MIRA LOMA, Calif. - Long Beach State women’s golfer Chaewon Park fired an even-71 to tie for second place in Monday’s U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifying at the Goose Creek Golf Club in Mira Loma.
Park was one of 16 players from Monday’s qualifying to advance to the WAPL Championship, June 17-22, at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. The Torrance native joins fellow 49er teammate Shawnee Martinez as she advanced two weeks ago as the medalist finisher at the Stockton sectional.
Park recorded three birdies and three bogeys, while carding 12 pars for the round on a clear sunny day in Mira Loma.
The soon-to-be junior completed her best season at LBSU, playing in all 11 tournaments for the 49ers, recording three top-10 finishes and one top-20. The All-Big West Conference Honorable Mention closed out the year with her best performances as a 49er, tying for fifth at the Fresno State Lexus Classic and at the Big West Conference Championship.
“What a huge accomplishment for Chaewon,” 49er head coach Joey Cerulle said. “It’s amazing to see how much she has improved in her two years at LBSU. It’s going to be a great experience for her to play on the national stage. I look to forward to watching her and Shawnee perform in Oklahoma.”
