Hoey advances to WAPL Championship at Notre Dame

LONG BEACH -- Long Beach State freshman golfer Simone Hoey shot a 71 in Wednesday's Women's Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifying at the Los Serranos Golf and Country Club in Chino Hills to advance to the U.S. WAPL Championship. The six-day championship is scheduled to take place, June 21-26, at the par-71, 6,133 yard The Warren Golf Club at Notre Dame. Hoey completed her first season at The Beach as she helped the 49ers place second at the Big West Conference Championship in San Luis Obispo , finishing ahead of No. 40-ranked UC Irvine for the second straight year. Hoey finished just one stroke behind first place as she completed the tournament in third. Hoey was nominated to the All-Big West First Team. "I am so proud of Simone for qualifying," said LBSU head women's golf coach Joey Cerulle. "I think this is just the beginning for her as her talents and work ethic point towards success.
