Welcome Back Hawai'i

The 2012-13 season will see the addition of an old friend as the University of Hawai'i returns to the Big West Conference in all sports except football. With the return of Hawai'i back to the Big West, the field for this year's women's golf championship will be raised to eight teams.

Last Year in SLO
LBSU is looking to improve from its disappointing fourth place finish at last year's Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club. The 49ers completed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 60-over par 924, finishing four shots behind third place Cal State Fullerton (+56), 13 strokes behind UC Irvine (+47) in second and 26 shots behind tournament champion UC Davis (+34). Senior Simone Hoey led the way for LBSU, tying for fourth at 11-over 227, followed by junior Rochelle Chan (+17) tied for 16th and sophomore Chaewon Park (+18) tied for 19th.

Last Outing
The 49ers are coming off from their second tournament win of the season as LBSU swept both titles at the Fresno State Lexus Classic earlier in the week. The 49ers (+28) held off second place Tulsa (+29) for the one-shot victory as senior Simone Hoey won the titles on the last the hole. Hoey (-5) won by four shots over Luciane Lee (-1) of UC Irvine as both players were the only individuals to finish the tournament under par.

Hoey Named Big West Golfer of the Month
Senior Simone Hoey was tabbed Big West Conference of the Month for April as the Rancho Cucamonga native captured her second career individual medalist honors earlier this week at the Fresno State Lexus Classic and helped LBSU win its second tournament team title this season. Hoey recorded a 54-hole score of 5-under par 211 after shooting rounds of 72-69-70 at the par-72, 6,212 yard Copper River Country Club in Fresno. Hoey was only one of two players to finish under par as she won by four strokes over Big West Freshman of the Year candidate Luciane Lee (-1) of UC Irvine. Hoey's second round score of 69 matched a career-low as she previously carded that number twice in her career, both taking place at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic (2009, 2012) in Fort Collins, Colo. Hoey was also the top player at the inaugural Black & Blue Rivalry Match vs. UC Irvine as she led all 14 players from both teams with a 1-over 72 and led the 49ers to a five-shot victory over the Anteaters at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine. This is the second monthly award for Hoey as she previously won the honors in 2011 for the month of February. This also marked the first monthly award for LBSU since October of 2011, when former 49er Noelle Zavaleta took home the honors.
