The Long Beach State women's golf team travels up to Northern California for the second annual Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by Oregon and UC Davis. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday, April 16 with first and second round action, followed by final round play on Tuesday, April 17. Both days are scheduled for an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the par-72, 6,034 yard Half Moon Bay Golf Links Ocean Course. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com.
PACIFIC COAST INTERCOLLEGIATE FIELD
LBSU will be among a 15-team field at this year's Pacific Coast Intercollegiate. Seniors Monica Villarreal and Noelle Zavaleta, junior Simone Hoey, sophomore Rochelle Chan and freshman Chaewon Park will represent the 49ers as they go up against (19) Arizona, (14) California, (81) Fresno State, (16) Oklahoma State, (21) Oregon, (53) Oregon State, (71) San Jose State, (40) Stanford, (23) UC Davis, (75) UC Irvine, (1) UCLA, (3) USC, (29) Washington, (79) Washington State.
LAST YEAR AT HALF MOON BAY
Noelle Zavaleta finished two-strokes behind first place to tie for second at last year's inaugural Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. The senior from Lakewood, Calif., completed the 54-hole tournament with a 4-over-par 220, recording her best finish as a 49er. Junior Simone Hoey (+12) tied for 23rd, while senior Monica Villarreal (+17) tied for 41st and sophomore Rochelle Chan (+32) finished in 67th. LBSU tied for third with tournament co-host and No. 17 UC Davis at 41-over 905. The 49ers finished two shots ahead of No. 40 Northwestern and No. 31 Colorado tied for fifth and 19 strokes ahead of No. 42 UNLV in 10th.
49ERS IN THE RANKINGS
In the latest rankings, LBSU comes in at No. 64 in Golfstat and No. 69 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings. LBSU remains the second highest ranked team in the Big West Conference behind UC Davis as the Aggies are ranked 23rd (Golfstat) and 26th (Golfweek).
VILLARREAL RECORDS THIRD TOP-10 FINISH
Senior Monica Villarreal recorded her third top-10 finish this season as she tied for seventh place at the Anteater Invitational at Dove Canyon Country Club. Villarreal posted a 54-hole total of 12-over 225 to lead LBSU to a fifth place tie with UC Riverside at 69-over 921. Villarreal finished in fifth at the Folino Invitational back in February and tied for second at the Rose City Collegiate last September.
GREER, SALOTTI TURNS IN BEST PERFORMANCES AT ANTEATER INVITATIONAL
Sophomore Ashley Greer and freshman Bow-Kay Salotti recorded their best finishes as a 49er at the Anteater Invitational in Dove Canyon. Salotti posted her first career top-10 finish with a 13-over 226 and a career-low 73, while Greer tied for 24th with a 20-over 233 and recorded a career-low 75. Both low rounds for Greer and Salotti came in the opening round at the Dove Canyon Country Club.
BIG WEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP HEADS BACK UP TO SAN LUIS OBISPO
The Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the San Luis Obispo Country Club, Apr. 22-24, after spending the last two years at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita. This year's 54-hole conference championship will return to a three-day format with 18 holes being played each day as seven teams battle for the conference championship and automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
The 49ers return to action Apr. 22-24, traveling up the cenral coast for the Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club hosted by Cal Poly.
