Rochelle Chan Named Big West Conference Golfer Of The Month

IRVINE, Calif. - Long Beach State senior Rochelle Chan was named Big West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for April, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Torrance, Calif. native turned in one of her best performances of the year at the LBSU-hosted Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance at Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda. Chan tied for second-place while leading the 49ers to a runner-up finish among 11 teams.
Chan posted a 54-hole score of 1-over-par 217 after firing a season-low 70 in the final round that was highlighted by three birdies, 14 pars and one bogey, coming up just two strokes short of individual medalist Alice Kim of Gonzaga. Chan trailed the individual leader by seven strokes entering the final 18-holes of the 60-golfer field.
LBSU made a valiant comeback on the last day after being 13 shots down to tournament leading Gonzaga after Monday's second round. The 49ers posted the lowest score of the tournament with a 292 to finish just four shots behind the Bulldogs, claiming the team title with a 29-over 893. LBSU completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 33-over 897.
Chan and the 49ers returns to action Apr. 13-15, for the Big West Conference Championship at San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo.
