The Long Beach State women's golf team returns to action after being off for the last two-and-a-half weeks as they take part in the SDSU Farms Invitational hosted by San Diego State. The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Sunday, Mar. 31 with opening round play, followed by second round action on Monday, Apr. 1 and the final 18 holes concluding on Tuesday, Apr. 2. All three rounds will take place at the par-72, 6,202-yard The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe. First and second rounds will have scheduled tee times from 8:00-10:06 a.m. from the first and 10th tees and the final round will have tee times between 7:30-9:36 a.m. from the first and 10th tees.

SDSU Farms Field
Senior Simone Hoey, junior Rochelle Chan, sophomore Chaewon Park and freshmen Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare will represent LBSU as they'll compete against 15 other teams that features seven teams ranked in the top-50. The field features No. 8 Arizona, No. 37 California, No. 54 Miami (FL), Michigan, New Mexico, No. 29 Northwestern, No. 31 Pepperdine, San Diego State, South Florida, No. 25 Texas, No. 22 Texas A&M No. 1 USC, No. 45 UNLV and Wyoming.
Last Year In San Diego
LBSU will be looking to improve from last year's performance after finishing in ninth place at 16-team The Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn in San Diego. The 49ers finished ahead of six ranked teams (No. 27 Texas, No. 17 Washington, No. 33 Denver, No. 16 Arizona, No. 48 New Mexico, No. 41 San Diego State) that were in the top-50. LBSU posted a 36-hole score of 39-over par 615 (303-312) after the opening round was cancelled due to inclement weather and the tournament was shortened to two rounds. Former 49er Monica Villarreal led the way for LBSU, tying for 15th with a 5-over 149. Senior Simone Hoey tied for 35th (+10), followed by junior Rochelle Chan tied for 45th (+11) and sophomore Chaewon Park tied for 57th (+13).
LBSU is coming off from a seventh place finish at the Bruin Wave Invitational at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana. The 49ers completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 76-over 940 (309-317-314), finishing ahead of then-No. 31 Denver and No. 40 UNLV as both teams tied for 10th. This was the 49ers' best Bruin Wave performance of the four years they have participated in. LBSU improved by 18 shots from last year's score as the 49ers tied for ninth with Wisconsin at 94-over. In 2011, LBSU finished in 11th at 66-over and placed 14th in 2010 (+81).
In the Polls
In the latest rankings in both Golfstat and Golfweek, the 49ers comes in at No. 70. LBSU is the third highest ranked team in the Big West Conference behind UC Irvine at No. 59 in Golfstat and UC Davis at No. 14.
LBSU Takes Third At UC Irvine Invitational
The 49ers shot a team low 296 in the final round of the UC Irvine Invitational presented by KIA to finish in third-place at the Santa Ana Country Club in Santa Ana. LBSU came within two shots of the tournament host Anteaters in the final round. The 49ers completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 50-over par 914, finishing seven strokes behind the Anteaters and 29 shots behind team champion Gonzaga.
Teare, Salotti Record Career Marks In Santa Ana
Freshman Kassidy Teare led the way for LBSU at the UC Irvine Invitational, tying for fifth place with a 7-over 223 to record her first career top-10 finish. Sophomore Bow-Kay Salotti, playing as an individual for the 49ers, finished two shots behind Teare to tie for eighth at 9-over. This Salotti's second career top-10 finish as she previously tied for 10th at last year's Anteater Invitational at Dove Canyon Country Club.
49ers Win The Gold Rush
LBSU recorded their first tournament win of the year by capturing the 2013 Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance at the Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda. The tournament hosts' held off second-place Gonzaga by 10 shots, finishing the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 53-over 917. This was the 49ers first tournament title since winning the Rose City Collegiate last year in Aurora, Ore.
Oh So Close For Martinez
Freshman Shawnee Martinez had a one-shot lead going into the last hole at the 2013 Gold Rush presented by Farmers at the Yorba Linda Country Club. The Modesto native was one hole away from winning the individual title on the par-5, 479-yard 18th with a 40-foot putt that missed the hole. Martinez then had to make a putt from eight feet to force a playoff, but ended up double-bogeying the hole. She finished the round with a 78, that was highlighted by two birdies, four bogeys and two double-bogeys. Gonzaga's Raychelle Santos claimed individual medalist honors as Martinez finished in second.
LBSU Closes Out Fall Season In Vegas
The 49ers recorded a team-best 298 in the final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown to finish in 10th place at Stallion Mountain Golf Club. LBSU completed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 58-over-par 922 as the 49ers were led by freshman Kassidy Teare. Teare finished at 15-over to tie for 38th.
49ers Place 10th In Washington
LBSU recorded a 79-over-par 943 to finish in 10th place at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash. LBSU shot rounds of 310, 322 and 311 at the Sahalee Country Club. Simone Hoey led the way for the 49ers, placing 24th with a 16-over 232.
Park Takes First Top-20 Finish At Rose City
Sophomore Chaewon Park recorded her first career top-20 finish, tying for 18th place at the Rose City Collegiate in Aurora, Ore. LBSU finished in sixth at 63-over 927. The Rose City Collegiate marked the first collegiate tournament for freshman Shawnee Martinez as the native from Modesto, Calif. placed second for LBSU, tying for 24th at 18-over 234.
Hoey, 49ers Ties For Fifth In Colorado
Senior Simone Hoey recorded her first top-5 finish in the season opening Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. Hoey completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 2-under 218, shooting rounds of 73, 76 and 69. LBSU tied for fifth out of 17 teams with Louisville, Nevada and New Mexico. The 49ers finished the tournament at 32-over 896. Freshman Kassidy Teare made her collegiate debut for the 49ers, tied for 16th (+8).
Cal Poly Hosts Big West Championship
For the second straight year the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the central coast to the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo hosted by Cal Poly. The three-day, 54-hole touranment will take place April 21-23, as eight teams will compete for the conference championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Welcome Back Hawai'i
The 2012-13 season will see the addition of an old friend as the University of Hawai'i returns to the Big West Conference in all sports except football. The Rainbow Wahine were members of the Big West in women sports from 1984-96. Hawai'i will compete is this year's Big West Women's Golf Championship in San Luis Obispo.
