LBSU Claims UC Irvine Invitational Team Title To Close Fall Season

The Long Beach State Women's Golf team captured the UC Irvine Invitational team title on Tuesday afternoon at the Santa Ana Country Club to close out the fall season.

LBSU (+15) posted a 294 to jump into the lead and hold off second-place Pepperdine (+17) by two shots to win the title. The Waves recorded the day's lowest round with a 290. It was the first title for the Beach since winning the LBSU hosted The Gold Rush tournament back in 2015.

Second round leader Colorado State fell to third after posting a 303 to finish at 18-over, followed by Idaho (+30) in fourth and the LBSU "B" team (+31) in fifth.

Junior Cara Barker was the top player for the Beach after firing a final round 69 to surge 10 spots in the standings to place fourth. Barker's scorecard was bogey-free as the Coronado, Calif. native recorded three birdies and 15 pars. She competed the tournament with a 54-hole score at even-216.

Junior Haley Tygret shot a 73 to move up three spots, tying for sixth with a 2-over 218, followed by senior Jennifer Yu tying for 12th after posting a 77, finishing the tournament at 5-over.



Sophomore Maria Davis carded a 75, tying for 21st at 9-over 225 and fellow classmate Holland Shourds shot a 78 to tie for 50th at 18-over.

Redshirt sophomore Euna Pak was the top player for the LBSU "B" team, placing third after firing a final round 71 with six birdies to finish with a 54-hole score of 5-under 211. She led the “B” team to a finish in the Top five in front of Cal State Fullerton, UC Riverside, and the hosts UC Irvine.

Redshirt senior Savannah Knox finished in 20th after posting a 78 for an 8-over, followed by senior Sachi Hamada tying for 40th after shooting a 74 at 14-over and junior Breann Fox tying for 44th at 15-over after turning in a 76.

Senior Felicia Taverrite shot an 86 to tie for 66th at 33-over.

The Rams' Katrina Predergast captured individual medalist with a 9-under 207, as she won by three shots over the Vandals' Sophie Hausman at 6-under just in front of Pak.

LBSU returns to action on Monday, Feb. 12, hosting the two-day, 54-hole The Gold Rush at El Dorado Park Golf Course.
