Hoey tied for 15th place after opening round at Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational
Oct. 8, 2012 SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Senior Simone Hoey carded a 3-over par 75 in the opening round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Monday at the Sahalee Country Club to tie for 15th place. Long Beach State recorded a 22-over 310 to finish in ninth, two shots behind No. 30 UNLV and Gonzaga tied for seventh 20-over. LBSU is six strokes behind No. 7 UC Davis, Oregon and San Jose State all tied for fourth at 14-over. Tournament host and No. 6 Washington leads the field of 16 teams with a 5-over 293 as the Huskies holds a four shot lead over UC Irvine (+9) in second and six strokes over No. 40 Stanford (+11) in third. Hoey started the round with a double-bogey on the par-4, 374-yard 10th hole. The Rancho Cucamonga native made a birdie on the next hole and would go onto par the next five holes until recording her first bogey of the day at the 17th. Hoey closed out the back-nine at 3-over as she made the turn onto the front making four consecutive pars and one birdie. She would record two double-bogeys on the seventh and eighth holes to end the front-nine at 1-over. Freshman Shawnee Martinez shot a 77 to tie for 30th as her scorecard was highlighted with four bogeys and one double-bogey on the back-nine and a bogey-free front with one birdie. Sophomore Chaewon Park finished one shot behind with a 78 to tie for 35th, while freshman Kassidy Teare is tied for 50th (80) and junior Rochelle Chan tied for 59th (81). Cyd Okino of Washington leads the field of 83 players with a 2-under 70 and holds a one-shot lead over two players tied for second.
Second round action continues on Tuesday with the 49ers scheduled to tee off at 11:45 a.m. from the 10th tee. LBSU will be paired with Oregon State, San Francisco and Portland State.
