Hoey, 49ers tie for fifth place at Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic
Sept. 11, 2012 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Senior Simone Hoey shot a season-best 69 in the final round of the Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic to tie for fifth-place at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. Long Beach State recorded its best round of the tournament with a 293 to tie for fifth with Louisville, Nevada and New Mexico. LBSU finished with a 54-hole score of 32-over 896 after carding scores of 304 and 299 in the first two rounds. Texas Tech captured the team title with a 4-under 860, winning by 27 shots over second-place Baylor (+23) and 31 strokes over third-place UNLV (+27). Tournament host Colorado State tied for 11th at 53-over. Hoey completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament with a 2-under-par 218 after shooting rounds of 73 and 76 on Monday. Hoey's scorecard in the final round was highlighted by five birdies, 11 pars and two bogeys. Freshman Kassidy Teare, playing in her first collegiate tournament tied for 16th, carding a final round 75 to finish the tournament with an 8-over 224. Teare collected two birdies, five bogeys and 11 pars to record her first top-20 finish. Sophomore Chaewon Park carded her best round of the tournament with a 74 to move up in the standings from 60th to tie for 39th with a 13-over 229. Junior Rochelle Chan (+19) shot an 85 to tie for 62nd, while sophomore Bow-Kay Salotti (+25) turned in her best round with a 75 to tie for 75th. Manon DeRoey of New Mexico won individual medalist with a 9-under 207, edging out Kimberly Kaufman (-5) of Texas Tech by four strokes. LBSU returns to action Oct. 1-2, traveling to Aurora, Ore. for the Rose City Collegiate hosted by Portland State.
