Martinez, Teare Finish In Top-10 at Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Long Beach State sophomores Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare posted their first top-10 finish of the year in the season-opening Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
LBSU finished in seventh place at 42-over-par 906, after closing out the second round with a 308 and coming back in the final round with a team best 294, as the 49ers improved by 14 shots to close out the tournament.
California won the team championship with a 9-over 873 as the Golden Bears won by nine shots over second-place Colorado (+18) and 13 strokes over Illinois (+22) in third.
All 17 teams finished up second round play early Tuesday morning as Monday's afternoon round was interrupted by inclement weather and darkness.
Martinez closed out her second round scorecard with a 72 to finish in 12th with three birdies. In the final round, Martinez moved up the standings by three spots to place ninth, improving by one shot for a 71 to finish the tournament at 2-over-par 218.
This was Martinez's second consecutive top-10 finish as she tied for seventh at last year's Big West Conference Championship last April.
Teare completed her second round with a 76 to tie for 19th that included just two birdies and six bogeys. In her last 18 holes of the tournament, Teare came back with a vengeance posting just one bogey for the round, while collecting four birdies and 13 pars to record a career-low 69. Teare jumped nine spots in the standings to tie for 10th, earring her third career top-10 finish.
Junior Chaewon Park tied for 81st at 33-over (82-85).
Dana Finkelstein of UNLV captured individual medalist with a 4-under 212, winning by one stroke over two players tied for second.
LBSU returns to action Sept. 16-17, traveling to Minneapolis for the Minnesota Invitational.
