Hoey ties for fourth place at Big West Conference Championship
April 24, 2012 SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Long Beach State junior Simone Hoey shot a 6-over-par 78 in the final round of the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club, tying for fourth place. Hoey closed out the three-day, 54-hole tournament with an 11-over 227, finishing seven strokes behind individual medalist Bev Vatananugulkit of UC Davis. LBSU recorded a team high 313 in Tuesday's final round to fall one spot in the standings to fourth with a total score of 60-over 924. For the third consecutive year, UC Davis captured the team championship at 34-over as the Aggies won by 13 shots over UC Irvine (+47) in second, 22 strokes over Cal State Fullerton (+56) in third and 26 shots over the 49ers. With the win, UC Davis receives the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament that takes place May 10-12, at three regional sites. Hoey recorded just one birdie for the round and 12 pars, while collecting three bogeys and two double-bogeys. Sophomore Rochelle Chan turned in her best round of the tournament with a 74 to tie for 16th at 17-over, posting a bogey-free front-nine with an even-36. Chan carded two consecutive birdies to start the back and would collect one more birdie on the par-4 13th to finish at 2-over 38. Freshman Chaewon Park finished one-stroke behind at 18-over, shooting an 81. Senior Monica Villarreal shot an 80 to finish in 28th at 21-over, while fellow classmate Noelle Zavaleta posted an 81 to finish one-stoke back to tie for 29th.
