49ers in third place after day one at Big West Conference Championship
April 22, 2012 SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Senior Noelle Zavaleta and freshman Chaewon Park shot a 3-over-par 75 in the opening round of the Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club to tie for third place. Long Beach State finished the day in third with a 18-over 306 as the 49ers are just one stroke behind No. 22 UC Davis (+17) in second and six shots behind UC Irvine (+12) in first. Zavaleta and Park are just two strokes behind individual leader Michelle Park of UC Irvine at 1-over. Zavaleta posted three birdies and six bogeys, while Park recorded just two birdies and five bogeys for the round. Junior Simone Hoey carded a 77, tying for ninth, while senior Monica Villarreal shot a 79 to tie for 20th. Sophomore Rochelle Chan is tied for 27th with an 82. Second round action continues on Monday with LBSU teeing off at 10:20 a.m. from the first tee with UC Irvine and UC Davis.
