49ers In Second Place After Day One at Big West Conference Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Long Beach State freshman Kassidy Teare fired a 1-under par 72 after Sunday's opening round of the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
LBSU completed the day in second after recording a 5-over 297 to finish eight shots behind No. 16 UC Davis (-3) in first.
UC Irvine sits in third, 14 strokes behind the 49ers followed by Cal State Fullerton (+20) in fourth and Cal State Northridge (+26) in fifth. Tournament host Cal Poly is currently in sixth at 27-over, followed by UC Riverside (+33) and Hawai'i (+34).
Teare started the round with four consecutive pars before recording her first of four birdies for the day on the par-5 fifth hole. The Vista, Calif. native carded her first bogey of the round on hole No. 6, but would regain control to finish the front-nine with two pars and a birdie for a 1-under. On the back-nine, Teare posted a birdie on the par-5 10th and would go onto finish the round with five pars, one birdie and two bogeys.
Teare is currently three shots behind first as Bev Vatananugulkit of UC Davis leads the field of 40 players at 4-under.
Sophomore Chaewon Park had an impressive scorecard as she was 3-under through the first 15 holes. Park was bogey-free through the 11th, recording three birdies. Park collected her first bogey on the par-4 12th, par the 13th and grabbed her fourth birdie for the round on the 14th. She would remain 3-under after parring the 15th, until running into trouble on the last three holes as she made three consecutive bogeys to finish the round at even-73 to tie for fourth.
Second round action continues on Monday with the 49ers teeing off at 10:30 a.m. from the first tee and will be paired with UC Davis and UC Irvine.
