Villarreal, Zavaleta leads LBSU in final round at Pacific Coast Intercollegiate
April 17, 2012 HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Seniors Monica Villarreal and Noelle Zavaleta posted a 77 in the final round of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay Golf Links Ocean Course to tie for 59th place. Long Beach State recorded a 306 to finish in 15th at 47-over-par 911. Top-ranked UCLA won the team championship by six strokes over No. 3 USC with a 15-under 849. Tournament co-host and No. 23 UC Davis (+11) placed seventh, while No. 21 Oregon (+13) finished in eighth. Villarreal and Zavaleta completed the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 13-over 229. Villarreal recorded no birdies for the round, while turning in three bogeys and double-bogey. Zavaleta posted two birdies, five bogeys and one double-bogey for the day. Sophomore Rochelle Chan finished one-stroke behind, recording a 76 at 14-over 230 to tie for 65th. Freshman Chaewon Park shot an 81 to finish at 15-over, tying for 68th, while junior Simone Hoey carded a 76 to finish at 18-over, placing 73rd. Erynne Lee of UCLA captured individual medalist by three shots with a 9-under 207. LBSU returns to action April 22-24, traveling up to San Luis Obispo to take part in the Big West Conference Championship at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
