With Three Players In Top 5, Women's Golf Leads After First Round At Big West Championship
Jennifer Yu leads the tournament at 1-under par.
Irvine, Calif. - Long Beach State got off to a tremendous start at the 2018 Big West Championships, opening up a 10-stroke lead behind three players that shot even par or better in Cara Barker, Haley Tygret and tournament leader, Jennifer Yu.
Yu was the only player in the field to shoot under par in the opening round at Strawberry Farms Golf Course in Irvine, carding a 1-under par 70 on the strength of four birdies in the opening round.
Barker and Tygret represented half of the players one stroke behind after the opening day, both shooting an even-par 71 to sit in a tie for second place, and giving the Beach three players in the Top 5 after the opening round.
Sophomore Holland Shourds also was in the top ten after the opening day, finishing at 2-over par at 73, leaving all four counting members of the LBSU squad in the top ten after the opening day.
Long Beach State finished Sunday 10 strokes in the lead over UC Davis, and 14 strokes in front of the rest of the field.
As the leaders, Long Beach State will tee off with the lead group on Monday, starting at 10 a.m. in Irvine. Live scoring for the full tournament can be found at golfstat.com.
