49ers Fall On Second Day At Big West Conference Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's golf team recorded a team high 313 in the second round of the Big West Conference Championship, falling to fourth place at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
LBSU began the day in second, 10 shots behind tournament leader UC Davis after posting a 12-over-par 304 in Sunday's opening round.
The Aggies continue to lead of the field of eight teams at 7-over, holding a commanding 12-shot lead over Cal State Northridge (+19) in second and 20 shots over UC Irvine (+27) in third. Cal State Fullerton and tournament host Cal Poly (+41) are tied for for fifth, followed by UC Riverside (+42) and Hawai'i (+52).
Sophomore Kassidy Teare was the top player for the 49ers, carding a 74 to tie for eighth at 5-over 151. Teare started the round with back-to-back birdies on her first two holes as she went 2-under through five. On the last four holes on the front-nine, the Vista, Calif. native picked up one birdie and three bogeys to go even on the turn. She would go onto collect two bogeys and six pars to go 2-over through 17 holes before closing out the round with a birdie on the par-4 18th.
Sophomore Shawnee Martinez recorded a 76 for the second consecutive day to tie for 12th at 6-over. Martinez had two birdies for the round, while collecting five bogeys on 11 pars.
Clariss Guce (-3) of Cal State Northridge sits on top of the leaderboard as the only individual under par for the tournament, leading the field of 40 players by three shots.
Final round concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 8:10 a.m. with the Titans and Mustangs.
