Park, 49ers In Second Place After Day One At Big West Conference Championship

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Junior Chaewon Park fired an even-73 in Sunday's opening round of the Big West Conference Championship, tying for second-place while leading to second at San Luis Obispo Country Club.
LBSU recorded a 12-over 304 to hold a one-shot lead over UC Irvine (+13) in second and three-strokes over Cal State Northridge (+15) in fourth. Thirty-seventh ranked UC Davis leads the field of eight teams with a 2-over 294 as the Aggies' takes a 10-shot lead into Monday's second round.
Park started her round bogey-free through her first five holes going 2-under posting two birdies on the second and fifth holes. She picked up a bogey on the sixth and eighth holes to go even and would double-bogey on the par-4, No. 9 to go 2-over on the front-nine.
After making the turn onto the back side, Park collected two birdies, a par and one bogey to go 1-over through 13 holes. The San Pedro native would close out the round with a strong finish, posting four consecutive pars and her fifth birdie on her last hole of the day on the par-4 18th.
Senior Rochelle Chan is 38th after carding an 84.
Bev Vatananugulkit of UC Davis leads the field of 40 players with a 1-under 72.
Second round action continues on Monday with LBSU teeing off at 10:30 a.m., with the 49ers paired with the Aggies and Anteaters.
