LBSU In Seventh Place After Two Rounds At Bruin Wave Invitational

TARZANA, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the fourth annual Bruin Wave Invitational at the El Caballero Country Club, the Long Beach State women's golf team sits in seventh-place.
LBSU recorded a 36-hole score of 50-over par 626 to finish day one four shots behind sixth-place Oregon State and 10 strokes behind No. 21 Oklahoma State in fifth.
Tournament co-host No. 20 UCLA (+7) leads the field of 15 teams by eight shots over No. 1 USC (+15) in second and 16 strokes over No. 8 Arizona (+23) in third. Co-host No. 33 Pepperdine sits in fourth at 35-over.
The 49ers closed out the opening round with a 21-over 309 to tie for fifth with New Mexico and remain just two strokes behind the Cowgirls and four shots behind the Wildcats. In the second round, the 49ers weren't able to gain some ground, shooting a 317 to fall two spots in the team standings.
Freshman Shawnee Martinez led the way for LBSU shooting a 10-over 154 to tie for 21st. The Modesto native carded a 75 in the opening round to tie for 12th that was highlighted by three birdies, two bogeys and two double-bogeys. In the second round, Martinez shot a 79 as she collected just two birdies, five bogeys and two double-bogeys.
Sophomore Chaewon Park shot an 81 to tie for 47th after the first round, but came back with a strong 75 after scoring five bogeys on the front-nine and went onto the back collecting two birdies and seven pars to finish in 28th.
Lee Lopez of UCLA sits on top of the leaderboard with a two-shot lead over Annie Park of USC.
Final round play concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 7:30 a.m. from the No. 1 tee. LBSU will be paired with New Mexico and San Diego State. Live play can be followed on Golfstat.com.
