49ers tied for third place going into final round at the UC Irvine Invitational

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Long Beach State freshman Kassidy Teare fired a 1-under par 71 in the second round of the UC Irvine Invitational presented by KIA, to tie for third place at the Santa Ana Country Club.
Teare improved by five shots from her opening round score of 76 to move up in the standings from 12th to finish with a 36-hole score of 3-over 147. Teare is eight strokes behind individual leader Alice Kim (-5) of Gonzaga.
After scoring a 311 in the opening round to finish in sixth, LBSU would battle back in the afternoon round to improve by four shots for a 307 to move up in the team standings to tie for third with Portland State. Both the 49ers and Vikings are 42-over 618 and remain just nine strokes behind tournament host UC Irvine in second. Gonzaga (+17) leads the field of 12 teams by 16 shots over the Anteaters.
Teare's second round score of 71, tied a career low as her scorecard was highlighted by a bogey-free front-nine that included three birdies. The Vista native completed the round with one more birdie from the back-nine that also included one bogey and one double-bogey.
Sophomore Bow-Kay Salotti playing as an individual, recorded a career-low 71 to tie for 10th at 7-over. In the opening round, Salotti started the day with a birdie on the par-5, 420-yard 18th hole. Salotti would go onto record a bogey-free front-nine that was highlighted by three birdies, two on them came consecutively on the par-4 Nos. 4 and 5 holes. Salotti remained at 4-under through five holes until double-bogeying the par-4 13th and bogeying on the 16th.
Senior Simone Hoey tied for 17th at 11-over after carding rounds of 79 and 76, while junior Rochelle Chan and freshman Shawnee Martinez tied for 28th at 14-over. Chan shot a 77 and an 80, Martinez recorded a 79 for both rounds.
Sophomore Chaewon Parkis tied for 52nd at 20-over after shooting an 82 in both rounds.
Final round concludes on Tuesday, with the 49ers teeing off at 8:25 a.m. from the No. 1 hole. LBSU will be paired with UC Irvine and Gonzaga. Live play can be followed on Golfstat.com.
