Kassidy Teare Fires Final Round 69 To Finish 10th At UC Irvine Invitational Presented By Kia

SANTA ANA, Calif. - Kassidy Teare fired a 3-under-par 69 in Tuesday's final round of the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia to finish in 10th place and lead Long Beach State to fifth at Santa Ana Country Club in Santa Ana.
LBSU recorded its lowest score of the tournament with a final round 290 to complete the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 30-over 894. The 49ers finished five shots ahead of fellow Big West Conference member No. 33-ranked UC Davis (+30) in sixth and 28 shots ahead of tournament host UC Irvine (+58) in eighth.
Eighth-ranked Stanford captured the team title as the Cardinal led the 13-team field with an even-864 and won by 13 shots over No. 37 Texas A&M (+13) in second and 15 strokes over No. 16 Pepperdine (+15) in third. Gonzaga placed fourth at 27-over.
Teare tied a career-low with her final round 69 as her scorecard was nearly bogey-free. The sophomore from Vista, Calif. started her round with two consecutive birdies from Nos. 1 and 2 to go 2-under through four holes. On the par-4 fifth, Teare would post her only bogey for the day as she would go 1-under on the next five holes. She would pick up birdies on Nos. 11 and 17 to finish out the round 3-under. This was Teare's second top-10 finish this season and fourth overall.
Shawnee Martinez tied for 13th after carding a 74 to finish at 7-over 223. Martinez struggled on the front-nine, recording four straight bogeys on her first four holes of the round. She would collect one more bogey on the par-4 eighth to go 5-over through nine holes. After making the turn onto the back-nine, Martinez would go bogey-free on her remaining nine holes, while collecting birdies on the Nos. 10, 14 and 15. This was Martinez's second top-20 this year.
Junior Chaewon Park shot her lowest round of the tournament with an even-72 to place 17th at 9-over 225. Park recorded one birdie and one bogey, while making 16 pars en route to her first top-20 this season.
Sophomore Janelle Sua turned in her best performance as a 49er, recording her first top-20 finish as she tied for 20th at 11-over 227. Sua shot a 75 that was highlighted by one birdie and 13 pars.
Senior Rochelle Chan, playing as an individual, carded her best round of the tournament with a 73 to move up in the standings from 33rd to tie for 22nd. Chan posted three birdies for the round to finish the tournament with a 12-over 228.
The Cardinal's Mariah Stackhosue, ranked in eighth in the nation in Golfstat, won individual medalist honors with a 4-under 212, winning by two shots over Grace Na (-2) of Pepperdine. Stackhouse will receive a sponsor exemption into the fifth annual Kia Classic LPGA tournament at Aviara Golf Club in Carlsbad for winning this year's UC Irvine Invitational.
LBSU returns to action Mar. 3-4, traveling to the San Fernando Valley for the Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine.
