Janelle Sua Leads The Way For LBSU At Peg Barnard Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - Janelle Sua shot a career-low 74 on Saturday afternoon to tie for 17th place in the opening round of the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course.
The sophomore golfer led the way for Long Beach State in the first tournament of the spring season as the 49ers are currently 10th, posting a 19-over 303.
LBSU finished two shots ahead of No. 50 Colorado and No. 38 San Diego State tied for 11th. The 49ers are just three strokes behind No. 28 California and Oregon State (+16) tied for eighth and No. 47 UNLV (+14) in seventh.
Tournament host and No. 9 Stanford leads the 14-team field with a 3-over 287, as the Cardinal holds a four-stroke lead over No. 37 UC Davis (+7) in second and five shots over San Jose State (+8) in third.
Sua posted two birdies and 12 pars for the round. After recording two consecutive bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2, the Torrance native went on a bogey-free run through 12 holes before posting her only double-bogey on the par-4 15th.
Lucia Gutierrez of California and Dana Finkelstein of UNLV leads the field of 75 players at 2-under 69, holding a one-shot lead over five players tied for third.
Final round concludes on Sunday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. LBSU will be paired with the Buffaloes and San Diego State from Nos. 12 through 14.
