Long Beach State Closes The Gold Rush In Fourth Place

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State tied for the second-best round of the day to close the gap on the leaders, but finished The Gold Rush in fourth place among 14 teams.

As a team, the Beach shot a 6-over 294 on Tuesday to close at 29-over for the tournament and finished one stroke behind Colorado State for third in the 14-team competition. Georgia claimed the team title with a 19-over 883, holding on to their lead from Monday with a final round 292 (4-over) while BYU finished in second place overall.

Long Beach State made a charge to climb as high as second-place in the team standings throughout the day on Tuesday. The move was led by Cara Barker, who was the team’s top finisher in a tie for 7th place at 6-over for the tournament, shooting a final round 72. Holland Shourds was just one stroke behind at 7-over and tied for 10th, while Haley Tygret had her best round of the tournament shooting a 71 to finish in a tie for 12th place.

Sophie Hausmann of Idaho was the individual medalist at 4-under, one of just two golfers to finish under par over the three rounds at El Dorado Park Golf Course.

Long Beach State will take one week off and then be back in action in two weeks, co-hosting the Rebel Beach Invitational at Spanish Trail Country Club in Las Vegas with UNLV on February 26-27.
