49ers defeat Lions for second time in sand volleyball with another sweep

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State improved to 2-1 with a second 5-0 win over Loyola Marymount in the 49ers third home match at the sand volleyball courts. Jocelyn Neely and Lauren Minkel led the way for the 49ers with a 21-6, 21-6 win in the third flight.
The 49ers opened the day with the fourth and fifth flights. Tyler Jackson and Janisa Johnson, playing in the fifth flight, earned an easy win over Amber Mirabello and Ellie Selleck as Jackson didn't have a single error in a 21-9, 21-9 win. The fourth flight was the closest of the day, as Alma Serna and Libby Fontanilla won the first set 21-13 behind four aces each from Serna and Fontanilla over Litara Keil and Ashley Maxfeldt. Keil and Maxfeldt answered back with a 21-16 win in the second set, but seven third set kills from Serna helped the 49ers take the match with a 16-14 third set win.
In the third flight, Minkel and Neely dominated Taylor Scoscia and Kenna Crouse in a 21-6, 21-16 win. Neely carried the offensive load in the first set with six kills, and Minkel matched that output in the second set for the victory.
Long Beach State closed out the day with two more straight set wins. Caitlin Ledoux and Tara Roenicke cruised to a 21-11, 21-11 win over Betsi Metter and Felicia Arriola, while Haleigh Hampton made five blocks in a 21-11, 21-17 victory in the second flight with Chelsea Cabrajac, who had 10 digs.
