LONG BEACH - College Sports Madness has selected freshman Raven Benton (Federal Way, Wash.) as the Madness Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week the website announced Monday.
Benton, a 5-foot-10 guard, had 16 points to lead four 49ers in double figures in Long Beach State's 76-66 home-opening win over Loyola Marymount last Saturday (Nov. 23). Benton added a team-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. She finished the evening going 4-for-9 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, and was also 6-of-9 from the free throw line.
Benton posted her second-straight double-figure scoring game as she was coming off a career-best 22-point performance at San Francisco (Nov. 17).
On the season, Benton is tops on the team with 7.0 rebounds per game. She also ranks second in scoring (11.5 ppg) and field goal percentage (45.2).
Long Beach State is back in action this weekend when it hosts Pepperdine on Saturday, Nov. 30, and Omaha on Sunday, Dec. 1. Both games are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start at the Walter Pyramid.
