Long Beach State Women's Basketball Reveals 2013-14 Schedule
June 5, 2013
LONG BEACH - Long Beach State head women's basketball coach Jody Wynn has announced the 49ers' schedule for the 2013-14 season.
"Our non-conference schedule is both exciting and challenging for our program, and it will prepare us for a tough Big West road ahead," Wynn said. "We will have the opportunity to play against some of the best teams in the country, including opening up at 2013 Final Four participant Cal."
"We also have a nice balance of home and road opponents," Wynn added. "Our team will be prepared to play an extremely competitive conference season."
Long Beach State begins the campaign on a three-game road swing and will face one of its toughest opponents in its season opener on Friday, Nov. 8, when it heads to Pac-12 foe Cal, which advanced to the 2013 NCAA Final Four. LBSU will then travel to Nevada (Nov. 15) and the University of San Francisco (Nov. 17).
The 49ers return to Long Beach the following weekend, entertaining Loyola Marymount in their home opener on Nov. 23. They will also take on Pepperdine and Nebraska-Omaha before heading to Tempe, Ariz., for the ASU Tournament (Dec. 6-7).
Long Beach State is then back at the Walter Pyramid for the next two weeks as it hosts San Diego (Dec. 13), Miami (OH) (Dec. 17) and the fourth annual Beach Classic (Dec. 20-21). The 49ers also travel to USC on Dec. 28, prior to closing out their non-conference schedule with a home game against Denver on Jan. 5.
LBSU will kick off its 16-game Big West slate on the road for the first time since the 2008-09 season as it makes the short trip to UC Irvine (Jan. 9) before traveling to UC Davis on Jan. 11. Long Beach State then hosts UC Santa Barbara (Jan. 16) and Cal Poly (Jan. 18) in its Big West home opening weekend.
The Big West Tournament is set for the second week of March. The first round and quarterfinals will be held at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid, March 11-12, while the semifinals (March 14) and finals (March 15) will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim.
