March 11, 2013
LONG BEACH - Sophomore Devin Hudson garnered her first career Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week award after registering back-to-back double-doubles in Long Beach State's final two regular season games.
The 6-foot-3 center averaged 17.5 points and 15.0 rebounds while shooting 68.2 percent (15-of-22) from the field in a pair of Big West road contests last week.
On Saturday, Hudson powered LBSU to a 71-58 win at Cal Poly, which was on a six-game winning streak and was tied for first in the Big West. She had a monster performance against the Mustangs in the regular-season finale with a career-high 22 points and 20 rebounds, making her the first 49er to achieve a 20-20 since Melissa Gower accomplished the feat on Jan. 13, 1995.
Hudson also played a pivotal role in shutting down Cal Poly's leading scorer, Molly Schlemer, holding her to four points on 1-of-9 shooting. Hudson had a pair of blocks and knocked down 9-of-14 shots on the offensive end.
In a 59-50 loss at UC Santa Barbara, the Ontario, Calif., native delivered her first double-double of the week with 13 points and 10 boards. She went 6-for-8 from the floor.
Over the two games, Hudson led the team in points (35), points per game (17.5), rebounds (30), rebounds per game (15.0), field goal percentage (68.2) and blocks (2). She tops all 49ers with eight double-doubles on the season.
