Long Beach State Wins Fourth Straight, Defeats UC Riverside 70-58 on Senior Night
The Long Beach State women's basketball celebrated its senior trio of Jessica Gertz, Darshana Ta'afua, and Cecily Wilson with its fourth straight win as the Beach collected a 70-58 victory over UC Riverside on Thursday night inside the Walter Pyramid.

The Long Beach State women's basketball team earned a No. 7 seed in the Big West Conference Tournament after closing out the regular season on a five-game winning streak. The Beach will face No. 6 seed UC Riverside on Tuesday, March 6 at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN3.

• Long Beach State has made the Big West Tournament for nine straight seasons dating back to 2009.

• Freshman Shanaijah Davison and senior Cecily Wilson have been tearing it up offensively. Davision leads the Beach with 13.9 points per game, while Wilson is the second-leading scorer with 10.3 points per game.
• The duo of Cecily Wilson and Martina McCowan have combined for 121 steals on the year with Wilson leading the Beach with 65 (2.17 per game) and McCowan second with 56 (2.07 per game). The pair rank second and third, respectively, in the Big West.
• Freshman Naomi Hunt has now tallied 46 made threes on the year, setting a new freshman record for made three-point field goals in a single season.
• Freshman center Emma Merriweather also set a new freshman record as she has pulled down 126 defensive rebounds which is the most ever by a freshman in a single-season.

Scouting the Highlanders
UC Riverside finished the regular season with a 9-21 overall record and a 6-10 Big West Conference mark. The Highlanders are coming off of a 76-62 win over UC Davis which snapped a three-game losing skid.

The Highlanders have two double-figure scorers in Michelle Curry (17.0 points per game) and Lauren Holt (15.1 points per game). Curry also leads the team in rebounding with 6.0 boards per game, while adding a team-best 103 assists and 46 steals.

Series vs. UC Riverside
Long Beach State and UC Riverside will square off for the 40th time in program history for for the third time this season. The Highlanders lead the all-time series with a record of 21-18. Earlier this year, the Highlanders defeated the Beach, 77-53, in Riverside, Calif. However, just last week, Long Beach State knocked off UCR, 70-58, at the Walter Pyramid.
