Jody Wynn enters her third year at the helm of the Long Beach State women's basketball program. Wynn became the sixth head coach in 49er history on April 7, 2009, after spending five seasons as the senior assistant, recruiting coordinator and head of scouting at USC. After LBSU failed to advance to the conference tournament in 2008-09, Wynn has guided the 49ers to consecutive postseason appearances. In her first year at LBSU,Wynn led the team to a fourth-place finish in league play and a spot in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals. The 49ers, who swept eventual Big West Tournament champion UC Riverside and defending Big West champion UC Santa Barbara during the regular season, closed out the campaign with a 13-17 overall record and a 9-7 mark in conference action. Three 49ers were named to the all-conference team with Karina Figueroa earning first-team honors. Figueroa was the first LBSU player to receive first-team recognition since Crystal McCutcheon in 2006. In 2010-11, Long Beach State finished sixth in tthe Big West and had two players named to the all-conference team. The 49ers also claimed the Big West Freshman of the Year and the Big West Hustle Player of the Year awards. Wynn came to LBSU with 13 years of collegiate coaching experience under her belt. While at USC, she was in charge of bringing in four nationally-ranked recruiting classes, including the No. 1-ranked group in 2006. On the court, Wynn coached seven All-Pac 10 performers, a conference freshman of the year and a WNBA draft pick. In 2008-09, Wynn helped the Trojans advance to their first-ever Pac-10 championship game, with five players garnering all-league honors. In her first season at USC (2004-05), the Women of Troy tied for second in the conference and rolled into the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997, finishing the campaign ranked 22nd in the nation. One year later, the Trojans were back in the postseason, advancing to the second round. Wynn entered the coaching ranks in 1996-97 as an assistant at Pepperdine under former USC head coach Mark Trakh. She helped the Waves to six postseason appearances, including three bids to the NCAA Tournament. In her eight seasons in Malibu, Pepperdine had six 20-win campaigns and captured four West Coast Conference championships. The Brea, Calif., native was a four-year letterwinner and starting guard at USC from 1993-96. During her playing career, the Trojans compiled a record of 79-35 (.693), won the 1994 Pac-10 Conference championship and made three consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. She enjoyed her best season as a junior in 1995, starting 27 games and averaging 8.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest. Wynn was also a prep standout at Brea Olinda High School, where she guided the Ladycats to three California state championships. She earned CIF Southern Section and Orange County Player of the Year accolades in 1991 and 1992, while also being tabbed a USA Today and Streets & Smith honorable mention All-American. Wynn earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science from USC in 1996 and attained a master's in education from Pepperdine in 2000.
