No. 7 Long Beach State Finishes Regular Season On The Road

Nov. 7, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. — With the regular season coming to an end, No. 7 Long Beach State will have two games on the road against Loyola Marymount and No. 6 UC Irvine.

After a 10-9 win against No. 11 San Jose State on Friday, LBSU is looking to gain some momentum heading into the Golden Coast Conference Tournament that begins Nov. 17.

LMU (6-18, 2-5) has lost six of its last seven games heading into Wednesday’s matchup.

The Lions are led by Matt Braun who is the team’s leading scorer with 35 goals. Chipping in behind Braun is Joseph Shaw and Alessio Brunocelli who have each scored 25.

The Beach won both matchups last year — first an 11-7 win on Sept. 3 and then a 12-5 win on Nov. 11.

After that non-conference game against LMU, the Beach will head to UC Irvine (12-8, 3-1) on Friday in a match that could decide second and third place in the GCC.

Earlier this season, LBSU defeated UCI 12-7 at the Mountain Pacific Invitational. The Anteaters LBSU will look for a repeat of that match as they look to finish the season on a three-game winning streak.

Leading the way for the Beach is Austin Stewart, who continues to build on his career-high in goals scored in a season. Last season, Stewart scored 29 goals. This season he has already surpassed that mark with 40 goals.

Behind Stewart is sophomore Nemanja Bakic and senior Duncan Lynde have carried the scoring load for LBSU with 34 and 31 goals respectively.
