Oct. 31, 2017

Long Beach, Calif. — No. 7 Long Beach State is back on the road this week as the Beach travels up to San Jose State to take on the No. 11 Spartans on Friday at 7 p.m.

It will be a big Golden Coast Conference matchup as LBSU (11-11, 1-2) looks to move to .500 in league play. SJSU is currently on a two-game losing streak after losses to No. 8 Pepperdine and No. 1 USC.

The Spartans (13-8, 1-1) are led by freshman Jacob Mercep who leads the team with 74 goals this season.

Last season, LBSU defeated SJSU in both meetings. The first was a 13-7 win on Nov. 4 and the second came in the first round of the GCC Tournament, when the Beach defeated the Spartans 13-5.

The Beach has shared the ball out this year with five players scoring more than 20 goals. Austin Stewart leads the way with 39, while sophomore Nemanja Bakic is second on the team with 32 goals.

Rounding out top five in scoring is senior Duncan Lynde (29), Chandler Kaltenbach (24) and Jacob Fujioka (23).

In conference play, Stewart leads the way with seven goals, while Austin Stevenson has four goals.
