Long Beach, Calif - After going 3-1 last week, No. 6 Long Beach State will be on the road Saturday when the team travels to Redlands to play two games as part of the Inland Empire Classic.
The Beach will try to build momentum from last week’s fast start when they face host Redlands at noon. Redlands (0-1) is coming off a 12-11 loss to Whittier on Saturday. The Beach (3-1) will then take on No. 20 Pomona-Pitzer at 3 p.m.
Last year, the Beach defeated Pomona-Pitzer 9-5 and went unbeaten at the Inland Empire Classic. At the Triton Invitational, the team got solid performances from Austin Stewart and Chandler Kaltenbach who combined for 18 goals.
In his first collegiate start against No. 6 UC Santa Barbara, freshman Marwan Darwish was solid as he grabbed 15 saves. Also in goal, Thomas Freeman went 2-1 with wins against Air Force and No. 9 UC Davis. The team’s lone loss was to No. 1 Cal, the defending national champion.
